DJ work usually involves working in an environment with loud sounds and noises and a good pair of headphones should be able to isolate the music from the external noises. Therefore, these headphones consist of closed dynamic 30 mm dome-type drivers, which together with the cushioned ear pads; form a tight seal around the ear. Although the dynamic range is slightly better than average, what makes these useful is their power handling capability of 1/2-watt.

This model has a plastic construction and comes in black or white finish. The head strap is adjustable and therefore very comfortable to wear. The plastic headband is such that it provides just enough pressure around the ear to form a tight seal with the pads, thereby improving the bass quality. If you are buying these for use with a walkman with a weak audio amplifier, then they will not be sensitive or loud enough, however if these are for use with a large amplifier, then they will sound excellent.

Adjustable Headband

It has some good points going for it such as a nice thick cable, a very robust jack plug, tough plastic headband, and comfortable ear-pads. As you can see, the headband is adjustable and they have even included a scale so you can measure how large your head is!

Features

  • For sound monitoring and DJ work
  • Reversible earcup for single sided listening

Price/eBay

The MDR-V150 headphones are usually for sale on auction sites and the price can vary depending upon condition. Bearing in mind that DJ’s usually use these at high volumes, you are likely to find pre-used ones that may have damage to the driver coils and diaphragm. The damage can range from a unit that crackles slightly to burnt coils. A used pair in good working order can sell for approximately ten pounds. You can also buy these brand new and the price is usually around the twenty pounds mark. Buy from a reputable seller, and make sure you do not get a fake pair, as these are also floating around.
