YX-1000A Meter Calibration

Calibration for Resistance Readings

Before you can use the meter, you must first calibrate it, and the manufacturers have kindly provided a means to do this. Before you measure any resistance value, you need to calibrate your meter to compensate for the variance in battery power and probe resistance, and the rotary potentiometer at the side of the meter, achieves this. Usually, you set the range switch to measure resistance, connect both probes together and then rotate the knob on the side of the meter, until the needle remains at zero ohms as shown in the diagram above.

Zero Position

Zero Point

This calibration sets the zero position of the needle, and this is the position when the needle remains at rest when it is not measuring any voltage. Simply use a screwdriver to turn the plastic screw so that the needle indicates zero on the scale. This is an extremely delicate procedure, so one must rotate the screw by just a tiny amount.
