Toshiba KT-S1 Inside

The inside design and construction of the Toshiba KT-S1 is extremely interesting. On this unit, you can see the foil-type covering, which provides radio frequency (RF) screening for the high gain amplifier circuit. This unit needed a new drive belt, which is very easy to replace as you can see.

There are two ganged slider potentiometers for the volume control, which needed a good clean as they were making a crackling noise. For this service, it is better to separate the PCB from the deck mechanism, as there are rubber pulleys on the tape transport mechanism that will not react well to the contact cleaner solution. When you buy a well-engineered product, it is also easier to maintain it compared to their cheaper counterparts.

Motor Drive

It is very easy to change the drive belt, and the best place to obtain a generic replacement belt is eBay. I managed to get a large bag of assorted belts and they came from China.
