Toshiba KT-S1 Power

The Toshiba KT-S1 operated on four AA size dry cells, which provided less than two hours of operation time in cassette mode, and approximately nine hours in radio mode. However, this varies considerable depending upon the volume level. This unit has an extremely high power requirement, and reducing the volume, not using the fast-forward and rewind functions, and using a better brand of batteries will help to increase the operation time. The motor, being an electro-mechanical component has the highest power consumption. Once the cassette stops functioning you could always switch to the FM Radio, which will work for a few minutes more before the batteries deplete completely.

Unfortunately on this player, when the battery power drops, the tape speed also slightly drops, and there will be a wining noise from the headphones that will progressively get louder in the last few remaining minutes. That was usually a good indication that the batteries required changing.
