Toshiba KT-4046 Repair

When I bought this KT-4046 unit, the tape-winding spindle on one side was missing, however, the previous owner thoughtfully stored it and one spring in a plastic bag, therefore it was possible to fabricate the missing spring and install it. Installation requires pressing the spindle shaft up from the underside, and that means opening the back cover. Over the years, I have found many units with the same problem, which leads me to believe that this could be a typical issue.
