Sony STR-242L Back Sockets
The great thing about this amplifier is that it has a phono stage for connecting a record player or turntable. The sound quality is of course excellent, as one would expect.
The RCA sockets together with the PCB and circuitry attach to the side of the chassis, and this is how it looks from the inside.
These are the connector sockets for the antenna.
This amplifier allows you to have two sets of front speakers, and the switches at the front allow you to select which pair you want. You can also have sound from all four speakers simultaneously. The thing to note is that the minimum impedance for all the speakers is 8-ohms. If you have two sets of 8-ohm speakers connected in parallel, then the effective impedance drops to 4-ohms. Lowering the impedance any further will damage the chip, and replacement chips are expensive.
This amplifier also provides un-switched mains AC outlets. This is for connecting other Sony equipment in the same range.
Here is a view from the inside showing you that the sockets are connected in parallel.
The logo mark indicates the manufacturing origin of this amplifier to be Japan.
