Canonet 28 How to Open Top Cover

Hidden Screws

If you are wondering how to open the Canonet 28, then you are in the right place. The top cover is difficult to remove in this version, because of the cleverly hidden screws behind the leatherette at the front. There are two hidden screws, one on each side of the body. Unfortunately, it involves unpeeling the leatherette layer to see them. I used a hairdryer to melt the glue so it would peel off easily without tearing. You can leave it partly attached if the top cover is the only thing you plan to open.

Leatherette Cover

If you want to disassemble it completely and gain access behind the lens and shutter assembly, then there are hidden screws for the front plate, which lets you take the whole assembly out in one piece.
