Marantz CD-330 Tape Transport

The Marantz CD-330 has an extremely well engineered tape transport system. On this unit, the pinch roller rubber had perished; hence, it was replaced with another recycled one. My impression with this unit was that whilst the rubber surfaces are relatively simple to replace, electronic repair would be difficult due to lack of access space.

Tape Path

The transport path is keeps the tape aligned uniformly, and this unit does a wonderful job of that.

Pinch Roller

In this photograph, you can see the new pinch roller and capstan. In the following sections, you can see the head design.

Spool Wheel

This tape transport mechanism is very advanced compared to other models of this time.

Counter Belts

The counter mechanism requires a pair of dedicated belts to operate.

Servo Controlled Motor

This is the servo-controlled motor. I had to replace this with an equivalent as the original had worn out. I also had to adjust the servo circuit, which is beyond the scope of this simple article.
