National Panasonic T-100F

The T-100F was a four band FM / AM Radio manufactured by the National Panasonic Corporation. It was a part of their T-100 series and this one has long wave (LW), shortwave (SW), medium wave (MW), and frequency modulation (FM) bands. It is very similar looking to the T-100Y, which had FM, MW, and two SW bands instead.

This is a 12 transistor 5 diode radio circuit. The transistors in the radio frequency (RF) circuitry are mainly the 2SA70 and 2SA71. These are PNP germanium transistors in a TO-7 pin-out. If you were repairing your Zenith Transoceanic 3000-1 radio and needed germanium transistors, then this radio has plenty.

This T-100F has a very straightforward circuit layout and is very reminiscent of the Zenith 3000-1 mentioned earlier. It has an FM board, AM board, and a separate board for three intermediate frequency (IF) stages. Both FM and AM signals use the same IF stages. An audio amplifier board to drive a loudspeaker follows the IF stages.

The power output stage has a pair of 2SB324 germanium PNP transistors in a TO-1 package. These are medium power drivers with a maximum collector current Ic of 1 ampere, and capable of providing a 2 W output when used in a complementary pair configuration.

This radio looks very similar to the T-100D, with the same chrome frame, volume, tone, and bass controls; however, the T-100F has a telescopic aerial. It also has a socket marked MPX. Although their chassis appears the same, version "F" has bulbs to indicate the band setting, whilst version "D" had a complex mechanical system with strings.

If you see a T-100 series on eBay, then the way to tell if it is a version "F" is by looking at the tuning scale. If it shows all of these bands then it likely is an "F".
