Avometer Model 7 Mk2 Battery Modification

This AVO Model 7 Mk2 battery modification allows one to use the standard PP3 9 V batteries that are readily available at thrift stores. All that was required was a standard PP3 connector, which came from eBay for 99p.

I had to drill a small hole in the battery box to allow the connector wires to route through. The hole has to be as high up as possible, this way you still keep the option to use the 1289 batteries if you so wished.

Simply solder the red and black wires from the connector to the points shown here. If you have a hot glue gun, it is advisable to place a blob of glue to seal the hole and simultaneously secure the wires.

Here, you can see that there is enough room for the PP3 connector and the 1289 batteries, should you manage to find some cheap vintage batteries to use.
