Avometer Model 7 Mk2 eBay Value Price

I attempted to buy a Model 7 on eBay, but unfortunately, many were broken and in extremely poor condition due to age. This meter has a thin aluminium back cover; consequently, many meters will have dents and scratches at the back. The meter movement is very robust on this model; however, in the hands of a Brit seller, you can expect a damaged movement, burnt coil, burnt shunts, and missing terminals.

Many toe rag sellers will know of the damage to the meter coil, however they will try to sell it as "spares and repairs" or as "untested" to get as much money as possible. A unit with a burnt meter coil is worthless, because there are no replacement parts available.

I managed to buy an AVO 8 from a total toe-rag who knew that the meter was beyond repair or even spares. It had a burnt shunt coil, damaged safety cut-out, and the captive terminals were missing. To make matters worse, he even took a hammer to the insides to smash the circuit boards! Hey, we Brits take our experiments very seriously. :-)

These meters were mass-produced and there are plenty out there in mint condition. A broken meter on its own without any probes or leather case, and selling as "untested" should sell for around five pounds. However, a working and tested one in reasonable condition should sell for ten pounds or more, and one on mint condition together with its leather case, manual, probes, should sell for approximately fifty pounds or more.

I just love Avometers, and even a broken meter in poor condition can be restored back to full working glory. It requires patience, skill, and dedication, which is why I am always successful.
