AVO 8 Repair Service / Problems
Repairing an avometer can be very time consuming because it contains many parts, and boards that are screwed and soldered together. My first ever repair was replacing a burnt shunt wire on an old meter given to me. Over the years I have collected these meters and refurbished them to new condition by replacing components. However it is a labour of love and a hobby today as there is not much work out there servicing these wonderful old meters.
A very common problem that occurs with these meters is a loose clip that is meant to secure the glass.
Dial Glass Problem
A detached dial glass is a common problem and repairable very easily. The meter assembly, which consists of the movement and the dial, separates from the rest of the unit. There are just two large bolts holding that assembly and they are easily removable.
Clean and Replace
There are four clips securing the glass in place. You will find that one of the clips will have rotated away from the glass thereby not securing it.
As you can see, the repair is common sense. Remove the glass and clean away any dried up glue. Clean all the surfaces and re-glue it. For the glue, I used silicone sealant, which provides a robust seal. Then replace the four clips together with their screws.
