AVO 8 MK 2 Meter Dial Accuracy
The AVO 8 range has a lovely clear mirror strip to help eliminate parallax errors. The introduction of parallax error occurs when viewing the dial at an angle, and consequently, you will see a reflection of the needle in the mirror strip. The trick is to adjust your view such as the real needle is completely behind the reflected one, during which time your view of the dial will be head-on.
In order to reduce the parallax error, align your head so that you are looking at the needle head on from the front. When there is no longer a reflection in the mirror strip, the reading observed will be accurate. As you can see, the scale plate has three sets of markings, which are approximately 5-inches in length. The resistance scale is marked 0 Ω to 200000 Ω. The second scale is for the current and voltage for both AC and DC readings, and these divisions are 1¼ mm apart indicating a linear moving coil response. Hence, this type of scale is very easy to read. There is also a decibel scale in (dB) used with any of the AC ranges.
