LM1876 Overture™ Audio Power Amplifier

LM1876 Overture™ Audio Power Amplifier

The LM1876TF is a stereo power amplifier IC manufactured by Texas Instruments, and National Semiconductors, and is a part of the Overture high-end chipset. It is a single chip amplifier solution, which requires just three external resistors and two capacitors to operate. It can deliver 20-watts of power per channel into an 8 Ω speaker. This IC provides a very high quality audio, and exhibits less than 0.1 % THD. Its applications are in high-end stereo, and due to its low-cost and minimal component count, it is extremely popular with hobbyists and engineers.

Interestingly, this IC will operate on any voltage range between 20 V and 64 V, and that makes it easier for engineers to implement using existing power supply designs.

SPiKe™

Amplifier IC and Heatsink

SPiKe™ is an extremely effective output protection circuitry, which is available in this IC. It protects the output from overload conditions, and ensures that the output operates within safe parameters.
