Sony WM-FX193 Tape Transport
The Sony WM-FX193 has a metal chassis onto which the components of the tape transport mechanism mount. There are no screws involved in this construction, and they are using a plastic fabrication method to minimize the amount of metal used in this build. The drive components such as the cogwheels are plastic to reduce manufacturing costs.
This photograph shows the pinch roller and the audio head.
The audio head has a mirror-polished surface, and in terms of design and quality this is as good as it gets. The mounting is fixed-azimuth as you can see.
They are using a small piece of ribbon cable for connecting the head terminals to the PCB. There are four conductors, because two are required for each channel.
