Sony WM-FX251 Audio Head and Tape Mechanism

The Sony WM-FX251 has a stereo audio head, which connects to the printed circuit board by a ribbon cable. In this photograph, you can see the capstan spindle, pinch roller, motor cover, and the metal pushbutton assembly. Note that this is not an auto reverse system, which is why the design is so simple.

The audio head is a Sony design and very good quality.

You have to take extra care due to these plastic cogwheels. Sometimes a unit has had impact damage and all of these cogwheels have broken free.
