Sony WM-FX251 Motor and Driver IC

A nice feature of the WM-FX251 is the disc motor, which provides a super smooth tape speed.

IC601 is LB1979, which is the capstan / reel motor drive integrated circuit (IC) that directly drives the three coils (u, v, w) within motor M901. This IC also has voltage and speed regulation circuitry, and power management features.
