Nokia 3310 Firmware Updating
The extracted firmware is stored on the hard drive of the computer and then updated using the "NokiX" software obtainable from the Internet. NokiX is an interesting project designed to update the firmware of Nokia DCT3 series phones. It allows one to add new features, applications, and games to the phone. The software executes scripts written in Rexx language. Rexx is a general-purpose scripting and command language that IBM created. If you learn this language, then you will know a scripting language that runs everywhere from mainframes to handhelds. For common sense reasons, one should work with a copy of the firmware file and keep the original somewhere safe.
Loading Scripts
This program uses scripts, where each script makes a specific change to add a feature. Therefore, you need to select the particular scripts for the changes you plan to make. These scripts are loaded into the program, and you also need to point the program to the location of the firmware file.
The image above shows some of the scripts that are loaded for the Nokia 3310 firmware. Pressing the yellow "Play" icon starts the execution of the scripts, and the modification of the firmware.
Successful Completion
Once all the scripts have completed executing, the output window should look like this. It should indicate that the processing finished successfully.
