Roboraptor IR Diodes

Inside nose area

The Roboraptor uses infrared (IR) LEDs to emit infrared light. This light bounces off surfaces and is then detected by the IR sensors located within the head dome.

IR LEDs

Inside his nostrils, there are diodes that transmit infrared light. When this light reflects off obstacles in front of him, it is picked up by infrared receivers situated at the top of his head. This technology works best when obstacles have shiny surfaces. I thought the sensor range was short because it was only able to detect movement when I waved my hands directly in front of its face. Most of the time he kept moving until bumping into a wall, hence I felt he needed some calibration and repair.
