SideWinder Force Feedback Pro Optical Components

The one main characteristic of the force feedback pro is the optical sensor technology that makes it stand out ahead of other designs. On this page you can see some of the sensor components that they employed. Traditionally, joysticks have tended to employ leaf switches and potentiometers for sensors in their design. However, mechanical sensors are usually not as reliable and accurate as optical sensors, hence this is one main advantage that the Force Feedback Pro has over other designs. As you can see on the main board there is the PD242 component which has a window for the light to pass through.
