Sanyo MGR59 Motor Drive
The Sanyo MGR59 has a very simple tape drive mechanism manufactured around a metal chassis. The push-button assembly is very small because there is no rewind function, and as a result, there is a lot of empty space within the case. Replacing the drive belt in this unit is extremely simple, and there is easy access to the pulleys. I was able to find a generic belt, which fitted well, and the player is happily working again.
This player also has a very reliable motor, because it has had very good use, however the motor is still operating fine.
Drive Belt
The capstan flywheel is a composite metal / plastic. The plastic part provides the pulley function, whilst the metal increases weight to improve speed regulation. Although they have tried very hard to cut costs, you can see that they are still using steel screws to secure the chassis to the case, when plastic locking tabs could have been cheaper.
