Sanyo MGR59 Radio Design
Sanyo MGR59 radio design is fully realised mature circuit based on the Toshiba chipset, which works extremely well. Even though this is a budget-end model, the quality is still very high, and this radio circuit ensures excellent radio reception.
Ferrite Rod and Coil
This photograph shows the ferrite rod and coil. The tuning dial mechanism uses string. I once saw this type of mechanism being assembled in a factory and it was impressive how quickly it was done. Those people are extremely hard working and intelligent.
Tuning Capacitor
This photograph shows the variable capacitor for tuning into stations. This appears to be a short profile design for this application.
Toshiba radios became extremely popular due to their chipset.
TA7358P
The radio design consists of three integrated circuits. This is the Toshiba TA7358P FM front-end, which is analogous to a tuner chip. Usually, high-end radios have a dedicated IC for this purpose. The cheaper models usually have a single chip radio solution.
TA7370P
The TA7370P is the PLL FM Stereo multiplex, which contains the phase detector, stereo decoder, and pilot LED driver.
BA4236L
Finally, there is the BA4236L which is the combined AM and FM upper heterodyne detector and intermediate frequency (IF) 10.7 MHz amplifier. This IC has built in suppression circuitry to generate white noise when receiving weak signals between stations. The FM demodulation uses the popular quadrature system.
