Sony WM-FS493 Mechanism

The WM-FS493 and WM-FS495 Sports Walkmans use the MF-WMFX433-114 transport mechanism that will also be found in the WM-FX433 and WM-FX435 Walkmans. The mechanism consists of plastic cogwheels driven by a disc motor. An occasional problem with these is that the spring mountings, which are plastic, may break off releasing the spring into the cogwheels. This could result in further damage to the cogwheels. Replacement cogwheels are of course extremely difficult to find these days, which is why I never throw anything away as it can always be recycled for use at another time.
