Sony WM-FS493 Review

The WM-FS493 and WM-FS495 Sports Walkmans have a number of good design aspects worth writing about. The sound quality is excellent providing you use a good pair of headphones, if you do not have the original ones. The radio reception and circuitry too are one of the best for its time. It has a wonderful audio playback head, and the sound through the cassette is very good. This unit uses the 3-phase disc motor which has extremely smooth speed, and that too is noticeable. On the down side, it has plastic cogwheels in the transport mechanism, and any kind of heavy handedness will result in damage to it. Since replacement parts are difficult to find, I recommend very gentle occasional use, and careful storage.
