Kenwood KR-V6060

The Kenwood KR-V6060 is an Audio Video Stereo Receiver manufactured by the Kenwood Corporation of Japan in 1994.

This amplifier has Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby 3 Stereo, as well as Theatre Logic to provide surround sound capability. The Dolby 3 Stereo provided a 3-dimensional motion effect using only the front, and centre speakers. Theatre Logic was an extended logic providing additional sound effects for videos; however, this was different from the modern Digital Theatre system (DTS), which did not exist at that time.

There were two versions to this amplifier. The KR-V7060 had 100 W front and centre channels, whilst the rear channels rated at 25 W. The V6060 had 70 W front and centre channels, and the rear channels were only 20 W.

There were three amplifiers in the series, and the earlier versions were KR-694, and KR-V5560, which had similar circuit design. Compared to modern surround sound receivers, this amplifier has only one drawback in that it does not have DTS, however, what it lacks here, it makes up for in the electronic design and sound quality.

The front channel design consists of Class AB Complementary Symmetrical Output Stage, utilising 2SB1470, and 2SD2222 pair of Japanese Transistors. These are very hardy transistors with a maximum collector current rating of 8 A for an optimum of 120 W power output. These are robust transistors in a TOP-3L-A1 package, which is why some of these amplifiers have survived.

Separate bass and treble controls are becoming rare these days. The bass and treble gain / cut are ±10 dB, whilst the loudness control preset to +8 dB.
