Sony WM-EX610 Drive Belt
The drive belt is a flexible rubber, which transfers the mechanical torque from the motor pulley to the capstan flywheels. The belts loop in such a way that the capstan flywheels rotate in opposite directions. This type of configuration is useful in auto reverse players and minimizes mechanical complexity.
Rubber belts can last for many decades, but eventually they disintegrate even when not used. Replacing the belt is easy; however finding a cost-effective replacement is very difficult today.
Belt Replacement
Drive belts are available from many online electronics stores, and it is possible to find generic belts on Google and eBay that are the same size in length and thickness. This belt has a square cross section; hence, the groove in the pulley matches that shape.
