Opening the bigtrak

Opening the bigtrak is quite easy depending upon your intelligence level. There are screws on the underside of the unit, which secure the top half of the outer case. Those at the front are obvious, and there are two between the wheels, which are also obvious.

The back part might prove to be a challenge. The two obvious looking screws at the back should be undone. However, there are two hidden screws behind the grey coloured grill / bumper type thing. This grill can slide off; however, four tabs at the topside of the grille secure it.

Removing this grill can be complicated however; this guide will make it look simple. I have seen grown men cry and struggle in order to remove i.

The best way to remove the plastic grill is to use a library card or an oyster card and slide it in as shown in the photograph above.

This reminds me, I had better get some money into my Oyster card.

The plastic card will push the tabs and unlock them. However, a card will only work for the tabs on the front part of the grill. As you can see, the card must push both tabs simultaneously.

There are two more tabs to the side part as well. I simply squeezed the sides, using my gorilla fingers. I have huge fingers that are no longer good enough for SMD work; however, my piano playing has improved vastly!

These are the locking tab holes. As you can see, the tabs on the sides are facing in a different direction, hence making it hard to remove it.

There are two hidden screws consisting of a larger screw and a smaller one. You need to remove both before the top half will separate from the bottom half of the main body.
