How to Clean Battery Terminals

Acid corrosion on battery terminals usually causes poor electrical connections, which may prevent the circuit from operating. Corrosion and oxidation often exhibits resistance, which manifests in many forms of faults and errors within an electronic circuit.

Cola and Vinegar

Battery terminals usually have tin plating, which if corroded easily cleans with some ordinary cheap cola or vinegar. Cola usually has phosphoric acid (H3PO4), which neutralises the alkaline in battery acid.

Battery Terminals

As you can see, I removed the battery terminals and soaked them in some cola overnight, and the next day they cleaned easily with some steel wool and were back to their original condition.

Terminals Soldered Back

In this photograph, you can see the battery terminals soldered back.
